BY AIR

The closest airport to fly in to is Chania, but Heraklion has more flights available.

From Chania Airport you can take a taxi to Chora Sfakia (about 1.5  hours) or take a taxi to Chania bus station and then by bus to Chora Sfakia (about 2 hours). Last bus from Chania to Chora Sfakia is at 14:00.
At Chora Sfakia the ferry departs 4-5 times a day for Loutro, starting at 10:30 in the morning (see ferry schedules). If you wish you can use the Water Taxi service - ask for this when you book your rooms. Alison will also arrange the taxi for you if you want to reserve it in advance.

The ferry - who's arriving, who's leaving..?One of the enjoyable parts of visiting Loutro is arriving by ferry (15 minutes) as you are introduced to the panorama of the bay, the mountains climbing steeply behind the hotel and tavernas.

From Heraklion airport the options are the same, including the choice of reserving a taxi in advance, the journey time to Loutro is 2.5 hours. By bus you need to take the airport bus or taxi  to the Chania bus station, buy your ticket to Chora Sfakia. You will actually change buses at Vrysses. The last bus from Vrysses to Chora Sfakia is at 14:30.

A few enthusiastic walkers do arrive in Loutro via the Samaria gorge, walking the 18 km with luggage upon their backs, then taking the ferry (about 45 minutes) from Agia Roumeli to Loutro.
